Plainfield Marches for Obama

For the past three years I have dutifully marched in the Plainfield Parade as a proud Councilman-at-large, that I am. This year I signed up (as I did last year) a group to walk for Obama. Only this year, I joined and led the group as we walked for Obama.

Members of the group included Union County for Obama Chair Rebecca Widdick who hails from Clark, and Shiela Healy who currently lives in Manhattan. Shiela has just been assigned as our official person from the Obama campaign. She will cover all of Union County.

Also joining us were Council candidates Adrian Mapp and Annie McWilliams.

In all we had over fifteen supporters marching for Obama. I know we lost a few due the change in meeting venue. Else, everyone had a good time, and we got enthusiastic feedback from the crowds.

I know very well that Plainfield is going to win for Obama in a big way.

See pictures from the parade below.

The early group. We had about twice as many supporters actually walk. This was just an early shot (and as it turns out, my only group shot).

Council President Harold Gibson and Deborah Stapleton show their pride. Councilman Cory Storch also marched with us, alas, no pictures of Cory. Harold has not been well lately, but he walked the entire parade and all was well in the end.

The Burney family. Jasmine was very reserved for most of the way, but took her shoes off near the end and started to enjoy the crowds.

Kaliym Islam and family. Kaliym has been a strong supporter of Obama from well before the primary. He was in at our local Plainfield HQ making phone calls for Obama. His young son who has a stern look on his face in the picture, was chanting "Obama....Obama" through the parade.

Plainfield Obama supporters - meet Sheila Healy. Sheila will be supporting our campaign efforts for Sen. Obama. She is our official campaign representative from the Obama camp.

Participating supporters give their thumbs up for Obama!

Yours truly holds up the Obama banner. Mapp and McWillaims are on the edges of the picture.

Rebecca Williams shares her Obama pride....and Annie pride.... and Adrian pride.

Carmensita and Fabio hold up a giant star spangled star. At the end they did not know what to do with it but it would up being tied to the announcer's box on Front street and Park Avenue.

Near the end of the parade route. Kaliym and son share a proud moment.

Thanks for posting the pictures Rashid. And thanks for organizing the walk. My wife and children have also been very active in support of Senator Obama. Cathy has made calls, and the entire family (little Kaliym, Isaiah, and stern faced Khary) has knocked on doors to get support for the Senator.

Walking for the McWilliams/Mapp team for Plainfield for Obama was great--the people of Plainfield are clearly ready for positive change, as exemplified by their responses to Annie and Adrian as they walked for Obama. I know that Al McWilliams, himself a history-maker, would be proud to see his daughter on the same ticket with our next president, Barack Obama.

Sincerely,
Rebecca Williams
(not to be confused with Rebecca from Clark (commentator above)--aka the "other" Rebecca--haha)

Though an Obama supporter I am I don’t think the 4th of July parade is the appropriate place for a political fan fare. At this rate next parade will have all the candidates on their own floats pushing their own agendas and it will turn into the advertisement parade.
